The Eiffel Tower is the single most famous site in Paris. There is not competition for it, you can go anywhere in the world and how people a picture of the Eiffel Tower, and they will know it is in Paris. You cannot miss going to the Eiffel Tower if you’re visiting Paris. You also cannot miss viewing it no matter where you go in Paris because it is visible from most parts of the city.
The Eiffel Tower is a marvelous feat of engineering. It is now considered a part of the history of Paris; however the funny thing is that in the beginning it was not that way. People were actually opposed to its construction and thought it would destroy the view. If only these people know how valued the tower itself would become in the future.
It was originally constructed to serve as an entrance to the World Fair, and the construction was completed in 1889. Parisians love the tower so much that when Germans occupied Paris in 1940 the locals cut the lift of the tower. The manual climb was very hard and it resulted in Hitler never climbing the tower himself.
